About Product Governance
Ensures that furniture products—from design to end-of-life—comply with safety, environmental, and quality regulations while maintaining profitability and brand standards. They act as a bridge between product development, manufacturing, quality control, and legal departments to ensure “fair value” and safe outcomes for customers.
What You Will Do
- Regulatory Compliance & Safety: Monitor, interpret, and implement compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Product Lifecycle Governance: Oversee the Product Development, Approval and Management process from conception to discontinuation.
- Quality Assurance & Standards: Implement policies to ensure products meet defined quality, durability, and safety standards before, during, and after launch.
- Fair Value & Risk Assessments: Conduct, maintain, and report on regular fair value assessments to ensure products provide intended value to customers and minimize business risk.
- Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with designers, suppliers, and marketing teams to embed governance principles into the product design and marketing process.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor product performance, customer complaints, and returns to identify issues and implement remedial actions.
- Documentation Management: Manage product technical files, compliance documentation, and ensure product literature (labels, manuals) are accurate.
Key Qualifications
- Experience: Proven experience in product governance, quality assurance, compliance, or regulatory affairs within manufacturing, retail, or a related industry.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of furniture manufacturing processes, safety standards, and sustainability/environmental regulations (e.g., FSC).
- Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze data from complaints, returns, and market trends to drive improvements.
- Communication: Excellent stakeholder management skills to influence teams and communicate complex regulatory requirements.
- Education: A degree in a relevant field (e.g., Product Management, Engineering, Quality Management) is often required.
- Risk Mitigation: Proactively identifying and managing potential product risks.
- Attention to Detail: Ensuring meticulous compliance with standards and documentation.
- Strategic Thinking: Aligning product development with company standards and regulatory changes.
- Collaboration: Working across diverse teams to foster a culture of quality.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods, including walking through office and warehouse spaces.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer work, sketching, and handling material samples.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, samples, and product prototypes.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for supplier visits, trade shows, and design development meetings.
- Visual acuity to assess product details, colors, and finishes accurately.
- Ability to adapt to various work environments, including office settings and warehouses.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or reaching to inspect products or review samples.
