About DFM Systems & Architecture Manager
Acts as the critical bridge between design intent and manufacturing feasibility, specifically focusing on modular, structural, or systems furniture (e.g., workstations, wall systems, office, or commercial cabinetry). They ensure that complex, customized products are designed for cost-effective, high-quality, and efficient mass production.
What You Will Do
- Design Optimization (DFM): Analyze, review, and modify furniture designs (2D/3D CAD) to ensure they can be efficiently produced, assembled, and installed, reducing manufacturing complexity.
- System & Architecture Coordination: Lead the technical development of modular furniture, systems, and interior architectural elements ensuring seamless integration into interior spaces.
- Technical Drawing & Specifications: Review and approve shop drawings, technical specifications, and hardware details to ensure accuracy and compliance with design intent.
- Prototyping & Validation: Oversee the prototyping process, conduct stress tests (FEA), and manage Design Verification/Product Validation (DV & PV) to ensure quality before mass production.
- Cost Management: Work with procurement and engineering to optimize material usage and reduce manufacturing costs, developing “value engineering” solutions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the liaison between the design/engineering teams, production floor, sales, and external vendors to facilitate smooth production workflows.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all furniture designs adhere to international and local safety standards and quality certifications.
Key Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Furniture Design, Engineering, or Architecture.
- Experience: 5-8+ years of experience in furniture manufacturing, specifically with modular, systems, or casegoods furniture.
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of 2D/3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor).
- Manufacturing Expertise: Strong understanding of wood, metal, and plastic materials, as well as manufacturing processes (CNC machining, finishing, upholstery).
- Analytical Skills: In-depth knowledge of FMEA (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis).
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods, including walking through office and warehouse spaces.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers for computer work, sketching, and handling material samples.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of materials, samples, and product prototypes.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally for supplier visits, trade shows, and design development meetings.
- Visual acuity to assess product details, colors, and finishes accurately.
- Ability to adapt to various work environments, including office settings and warehouses.
- Occasional bending, kneeling, or reaching to inspect products or review samples.
