About Furniture Product Designer
Furniture designers are responsible for the look and feel of the furniture we use every day. They’re tasked with creating new pieces that are both aesthetically pleasing and functional, while also ensuring that these designs can be mass-produced at a reasonable cost.Furniture designers must have an eye for detail and an understanding of human anatomy and physiology. They must also be able to work well in a team environment—they rely on engineers, woodworkers, metal workers, fabricators, etc., to help bring their ideas to life.
What You Will Do

Carry out research to help develop ideas.

Produce new designs, or improve existing ones

Creating sketches and drawings of new designs using software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks.

Meeting to discuss needs and preferences and recommending materials, colors, and styles that will meet their goals.

Take into account size, shape, ergonomics and production methods when producing design ideas.

Meeting with suppliers to select materials that meet the designer’s requirements for quality and cost.

Developing a thorough understanding of current trends in style so new designs will be desirable to consumers.

Reviewing existing furniture designs to identify opportunities for improvement or change.

Creating models of new designs for testing in physical simulations such as ergonomic studies such as sitting positions in chairs.
What You Will Need

Bachelor’s degree in furniture design, industrial design, or related field
-
5 years professional experience in furniture design.

Proficient in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, 3ds Max, or similar software

Strong portfolio of previous work.

Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
